Fred Gumbinner
FRED GUMBINNER, JD

Fred is a serial investor/executive/advisor/capital raiser. He is the Managing Director of several Private Equity firms, including G2 GEM, and is the President of the DC Metro Chapter of Keiretsu Forum, the largest and one of the most active global angel investor groups. He has been in Micro-Cap Private Equity and Angel Investing for over thirty years and formally for over twelve years.  Fred has worked in various capacities with hundreds of early stage companies.  He has extensive experience in finance and capital-raising matters, involving all levels of the capital stack, having participated in over US$30 billion of successful financings and corporate transactions, ranging from 4Fs, Angel and Seed funding to IPOs, Dispositions or other exits. In addition to his numerous private investment activities, Fred has been a consultant and advisor to several early stage technology, alternative energy, life science, SaaS and real estate ventures, and has served in an executive capacity or as a board member or advisor to over 75 companies. A couple highlights of his achievements are serving as President and CEO of an early-stage magnetics company where he increasing the value of the company by over 1000 fold in four years; and serving as VP & GC of an electricity generation development company that yielded a $400 million return on $110 million total investment, with an IRR well in excess of 100%.  Fred received his BA (magna cum laude) from Colgate University and his JD. degree (magna cum laude and Contributing Editor of the Michigan Law Review) from The University of Michigan Law School.

ELIZABETH CHO-FERTIKH, PhD

Elizabeth is a cancer biologist-turned-angel investor and strategic advisor. She is the Founder of Venture Corner & ECF Biosolutions, and more recently MEDA Angels investor group which is focused on healthcare investments. Her investment & teaching activities are built on 25+ years of cross-disciplinary career experiences including (i)cancer research at the NIH, Georgetown & Harvard Medical Schools where her original research was published in some of the highest impact journals (Nature, Nature Cell Biology, PNAS); (ii) regulatory affairs at biotech companies related to INDs, Clinical Trial Protocols Data Safety Reports & Fast Track Application submissions for cancer immunotherapies & gene therapies to the FDA; (iii) grants administration at the NIH and DoD, where she conceptualized genomics, proteomics & other high-throughput tech-based Requests for Proposals, and oversaw multi-million dollars in grant review award funding for proof of concept thru clinical trial grant applications; and (iv) angel investment activity across stages in healthcare, e-commerce & SaaS ventures. She currently teaches Startup Funding at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School, and can often be found around the WSH DC-Baltimore regions mentoring startups. She received her BA from Johns Hopkins, her MS from Georgetown, her PhD from Thomas Jefferson Medical, and completed her postdoctoral fellowships at NIH & Harvard Medical School.
